We manage the transportation and sale of gas to electricity generators and other major users.

Our supply
Power and Water is a foundation customer of gas purchase and transportation agreements for Blacktip offshore Field, Palm Valley gas field and Mereenie gas field.
The climate in the north of the Northern Territory is a wet-dry climate and not subject to the greater seasonal temperature variations of summer to winter that southern states experience.
This means that when demand for gas is tight in the southern states over the winter months, the northern region of the Northern Territory where major demand centres lie, are in the dry season, where gas fed demand for electricity generation is lower.
This seasonal profile provides us with a competitive advantage over southern states by virtue of the current low winter season demand in the Northern Territory, compared to the high heating load required in southern markets. This will allow us to offer competitive rates, on either a firm or non-firm basis over the winter period.
Where we operate
We are well positioned to aggregate gas for our customers to supply their long-term gas demand profiles.
Our size, flexibility and backing enable us to service both in the Territory and East Coast markets.
Gas trading
Our gas supply and transportation agreements supply 90 per cent of the electricity generation sector of the Northern Territory. We supply the gas necessary to keep large mining and heavy industrial business operating.
Through the Northern Gas Pipeline, we offer competitively-priced gas into the east coast at its peak winter period when Northern Australia is in its dry season and demand is low.
The Northern Gas Pipeline also enables gas transportation to flow both ways, creating opportunities for added competition across the expanded market increasing the security of supply.
Spot Gas Market – Our spot gas desk is interested in selling surplus gas on a fully interruptible basis.
Gas Contract Management – Our team operates 365 day a year to manage clients’ gas supply and transport arrangements and secure new opportunities.

Our assets
Power and Water owns and operates a number of pipelines and related gas infrastructure in the Northern Territory.
We are a foundation customer for major gas pipeline developments including the Northern, Amadeus and Bonaparte Gas Pipelines. We have experience in managing pipelines and use qualified internal and outsourced asset maintenance suppliers to build, operate and maintain our assets.
Power and Water is always pursuing new opportunities to expand our business, which includes building and/or operating new assets to meet customers’ requirements.
Foundation partner for gas field and pipeline development
We are a foundation customer for major gas pipeline and fields developments with the goal to strengthen and grow the community.
Our main driver of becoming a foundation customer in the Northern, Amadeus and Bonaparte Gas Pipelines was to facilitate the interconnection of the Northern Territory and east coast gas pipeline, delivering gas from Northern Territory gas fields throughout the territory and east coast gas markets.
In addition Power and Water is a foundation customer of gas purchase and transportation agreements for Blacktip offshore Field, Palm Valley gas field and Mereenie gas Fields.

The move to decarbonisation to reduce carbon emissions presents exciting opportunities. Power and Water is positioned to support the transition to renewables by ensuring security of energy supply.
Power and Water has been incorporating renewable energy technology in remote sites for the past twenty years. Now, we’re building on that experience to assist our big customers with hybrid renewable and thermal generation opportunities.
We have had success in assisting customers, such as Newmont operations in the Tanami, in reducing their carbon footprint and costs. Through collaborating with the Northern Territory Government and working closely with our customers we can provide innovative solutions to assist in the adoption smarter operational practices.
