Another successful year for Power and Water's school education program, 'That's My Water!'

Throughout the 2023 school year, a record 800 students from 9 schools across the Darwin Region have been taking part in Power and Water’s unique education program, That’s My Water!

The award winning ‘That’s My Water!’ school program invites students to work and learn alongside STEM industry professionals to investigate water sustainability in the Top End. At the conclusion of the program, all students are challenged to create a social action project that can contribute to a more sustainable water future.

This year, the participating schools were Good Shepherd Lutheran College, Mackillop Catholic College, Dripstone Middle School, The Essington School, Millner Primary School, Stuart Park Primary School, Wulagi Primary School, St Pauls Primary School and Taminmin College.

To launch National Water Week and to celebrate the conclusion of the 2023 program, Power and Water hosted a ‘That's My Water Expo’ event at the Darwin Museum to showcase some of the innovative sustainable water solution ideas created by students across the Darwin Region. Teachers and students from participating schools had the opportunity to present their sustainable water solution projects to industry experts from Power and Water and the Northern Territory Government.

‘Water is our most precious resource - it’s the essential ingredient for life!’ Manager Water Demand Joel Spry said.

‘This year was the programs biggest and best year in regards to student numbers and participating schools and it was great to see how passionate and invested our young people are in securing our water future.

‘It was amazing to hear about some of the innovative sustainable water solution ideas from students today, including the design of a scaled pumped hydro model, which included solar panels and the ability to put load on the power system to simulate power load variation throughout the day.’

There are limited places available in the 2024 That’s My Water program. Schools interested in participating in the program for next year are encouraged to look out for an expression of interest document on the Power and Water website in November 2023.

The Power and Water ‘That’s My Water!’ school education program has been delivered in partnership with the Northern Territory Department of Education since 2016.
