Working to safely restore power in Alice Springs
Power and Water crews are continuing to work to safely restore power to about 1300 customers in Alice Springs following severe weather overnight.
Almost 4000 customers were initially without power after the storm brought down many large trees onto powerlines, roads and properties.
Power and Water crews worked through the night to bring the Larapinta and The Gap power network feeders back online by 2am and the Araluen feeder by 5.30am on Sunday morning.
Due to the widespread damage to the low voltage network, power remains out to about 1300 customers.
Impacted areas include Lovegrove Drive, Irvine Crescent, Spicer Crescent, Clarke Street, Memorial Avenue, George Crescent, Bloomfield Street, Hong Street, Nicker Crescent, Hawkins Court, Ashwin Street, Milner Road, Cowle Street, Boucaut Street, Van Senden Avenue and Bradshaw Drive.
The safety of the community and our people is our priority and Territorians are reminded to always assume powerlines are live and to not approach fallen lines.
Power and Water is continuing to assess the extent of the damage as we work to bring the power on as safely and quickly as possible.
Ends.
