The technical information we need may be unfamiliar to you. We recommend an electrical engineer or power system consultant complete the application on your behalf.

You should continue with this application if you want to:

  • connect to our transmission nework (66kV and above)
  • modify an existing connection arrangement on our transmission network.
Remote customer connections

Before you apply

You will need to provide relevant technical details for the connection including:

  • preferred site location – (listing any alternatives in order of preference as well).
  • maximum power generation or demand of whole plant – (maximum MW and/or MVA, or average over 15 minutes or similar).
  • expected energy production or consumption (MWh per month).
  • plant type and configuration – (eg. number and type of generating units or number of separate production lines).
  • nature of any disturbing load (size of disturbing component MW/MVAr, duty cycle, nature of power electronic plant which may produce harmonic distortion).
  • technology of proposed generating unit (e.g. synchronous generating unit, induction generator, photovoltaic array, etc).
  • when plant is to be in service – (eg. estimated date for each generating unit).
  • name, ABN and address of enquirer, and, if relevant, of the party for whom the enquirer is acting.

How to apply

  1. Submit your initial enquiry with details of the proposed connection via email to our Major Customer Connections team.
  2. We will engage with you and provide a connection engagement package for your connection arrangement.
  3. Submit a formal connection enquiry using the Large Connection Enquiry Form, providing the specific details as outlined in the pre-feasibility.

We review each enquiry for completeness and complexity. A preliminary response is issued to summarise the enquiry and provide the enquiry fee. Once you provide financial commitment to the enquiry processing costs, we will issue a detailed enquiry response within 30 business days.

By submitting this enquiry, you will be engaging Power and Water to provide you with a written response. If additional information is required we will contact you to advise prior to providing the response.

In preparing an application to connect, you will be requested to provide additional information relevant to your connection application. This includes but not limited to:

  • the full address of proposed installation including NMI and current meter number
  • a description of the entry point and transfer point as the Power and Water Substation, Pillar or Pole # of which the installation is/ will be connected
  • a description of the premises and connected plant suitable to determine load profile, power consumption and expected operation
  • a Single Line Diagram outlining the existing connection arrangements and the integration of the proposed generating system
  • generating system details – Inverter size, number and size of PV panel arrays. Maximum export requested in kVA
  • maximum annual demand of site in kVA, including any proposed growth or guaranteed reduction
  • estimated annual energy consumption and production in kWh (Net and gross figures
  • any disturbing load and step change details, and proposed ramp rates for generation
  • any additional information as requested by Power and Water.

After you apply

  1. We will provide a detailed response outlining the specific network requirements relating to your connection.
  2. Submit a compliant connection application supported by your connection.
  3. We will provide you with a connection offer to formalise the agreement.
  4. We will witness the commissioning of your final connection and/or generation system.
  5. This includes NTESMO, Utilities Commission etc. We cannot finalise your connection without these approvals.
  6. You will need to provide post-commissioning documentation.
