Customers who need a new power connection or wish to make changes to an existing connection should refer to this Basic Connection information. We recommend that an electrician, electrical contractor, or your retailer complete the application on your behalf.

Use this application if you want to:

  • Connect a new residential or small business (including solar PV installations with an inverter capacity of less than 30kVA)
  • Modify residential or small business connections
  • Request an unmetered connection (other than streetlights)
  • Request a temporary supply connection

Before you apply

You will need to provide the following:

  • if you are applying on behalf of the customer, a signed owner consent form PDF, 263.36 KB must be provided.
  • meter model for solar PV and energy storage connections
  • connection arrangement and requirements
  • voltage rise calculation for solar PV and energy storage connections

Note, incomplete or incorrect applications will result in a delay.

After you apply

After you submit we will evaluate your application and send an invoice to the nominated billing nominee where required.  We will then contact your electrical contractor about the work, upon receipt of payment.

To finalise your connection, you must provide a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) .

For micro-embedded generation connections, such as solar PV, an Embedded generation commissioning sheet will also be required.

Do I need a meter upgrade or change?

You may need to upgrade your meter if your connection application is for a solar PV connection.

Non-compatible PV meters

If you cannot identify if you have the correct meter for your connection, you may need to book a site visit by our Connections Team by emailing power.connections@powerwater.com.au.

Do I need to provide the retailer's details?

A copy of the application will be sent to the nominated retailer. If you live in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek, or Alice Springs, you can choose your power retailer, who can submit your connection application on your behalf.

We cannot complete your connection request unless a retailer has been appropriately engaged.

For remote customers, Power and Water is your nominated retailer.
