Power and Water Corporation is celebrating two wins at the Australian Water Association’s (AWA) Northern Territory Water Awards, announced at the NT Water in the Bush Conference and Awards Dinner on 9 October.

The awards celebrate the achievements of AWA members in advancing leadership, innovation and infrastructure projects within the Northern Territory. Power and Water received the Infrastructure Project Innovation Award (Regional) for the delivery of the Katherine PFAS Water Treatment Plant, while Senior Manager of Strategic Water, Kylie Collins, was named Water Professional of the Year.

AWA Chief Executive Corinne Cheeseman praised the finalists and winners, acknowledging their remarkable contributions to overcoming water challenges in the Northern Territory.

‘These award winners highlight the exceptional work being done in the Northern Territory to protect our vital groundwater sources and tackle complex issues, like PFAS contamination,’ she said.

‘Their leadership in finding innovative solutions demonstrates a steadfast commitment to sustainable water management.

‘By setting new standards in environmental assessment and delivering safe drinking water, our winners are shaping a brighter future for all Australians.’

Power and Water honoured for innovation

Power and Water’s Executive General Manager, Stephen Vlahovic, accepted the award for the cutting-edge Katherine PFAS Treatment Plant.

‘This project demonstrates how effectively we can work with a range of stakeholders and contractors to deliver a fantastic outcome for the community. The community of Katherine were very supportive through the whole process, and we thank them for that. It was a long and challenging journey,’ he said.

The Katherine PFAS Water Treatment Plant delivered a solution to treat PFAS contamination in Katherine’s drinking water supply. This initiative reflects Power and Water’s commitment to providing safe, sustainable, and secure drinking water for all Territorians.

Kylie Collins named Water Professional of the Year

Known for her strong leadership in water management, Kylie has driven change through advocacy, strategic collaborations, and a focus on improving essential services in remote communities.

‘I’m passionate about making a difference and advocating for and implementing initiatives that address the unique challenges of service delivery across the vast expanse of the NT, and in particular in remote communities,’ she said.

‘I’m grateful for the support and encouragement I have at Power and Water, and from my family. My role provides so many opportunities to have a lasting impact.’

The winners of the Northern Territory Water Awards will represent the Territory at the national AWA Awards as part of the annual water conference and exhibition, Ozwater’25, in Adelaide.
