Power and Water is preparing to welcome 11 new apprentices and 7 Northern Territory Government graduates to start their new career journeys in a variety of exciting roles.
The new cohort of apprentices will commence their 4-year nationally accredited apprenticeship program through training provider GTNT Group to learn specialised skills and training in electrical, cable jointing and linework fields in Power and Water’s Power Services division.
The Northern Territory Government graduate program provides a 2-year placement opportunity across a range of Power and Water business areas including Water Services, Power Services, Core Operations and People and Culture.
Ethan McKay finished year 12 two years ago and is looking forward to starting his cable jointing apprenticeship with Power and Water.
‘I’ve always had an interest in car electrics and understanding how the mechanics work, and that’s why I applied for an apprenticeship to start my career in the electrical industry,’ Ethan said.
‘I am really looking forward to the opportunity to meet new people, develop my skills and challenge myself to become a fully qualified cable jointer.’
New apprentice linesman Shane Bracken’s career aspirations are to become a confident and qualified tradie.
‘No one in my family has finished school let alone completed a trade certificate, so it’s something I really want to achieve and make my family proud,’ Shane said.
The new apprentices and graduates will first participate in an induction process to introduce them to the diversity of a multi-utility organisation and provide an opportunity to meet senior leaders across the business.
‘It is terrific to welcome new apprentices and graduates to our organisation because they bring a fresh perspective to the way we operate,’ Power and Water Chief Executive Officer Djuna Pollard said.
‘It’s great that we can provide employment opportunities through GTNT and be a part of developing local capability and expertise for the future.
‘I am passionate about what we do and the essential services we provide across the Territory, including employment opportunities, to help make a difference to the lives of Territorians.’
Bachelor of Commerce graduate Vera Chen has already commenced her placement in Power and Water’s People and Culture division.
‘What excites me the most about working here is how much my own values align with those of Power and Water,’ Vera said.
‘The commitment of putting people first - both customers and employees - and the culture of excellence, teamwork and making a difference is something I want to be part of.
‘Even in my short time here, I've felt a shared passion and a clear sense of direction, and I'm looking forward to being a part of the journey and witnessing our collective progress and outcomes.’
