Power and Water’s Community Grants Program for 2024 is now open.

Community groups can apply for grants between $1,000 and $5,000 for events and initiatives that give back to the community in meaningful ways.

Power and Water’s purpose is to make a difference to the lives of Territorians and we are excited to partner with organisations that are actively working towards the same goal through our Community Grants Program.

Applications are open from 23 February to 24 March 2024.

Applications will be assessed against a range of eligibility criteria and should align to one of Power and Water’s focus areas that include helping shape the future of the Territory, caring for and supporting Territorians, and uplifting and creating opportunities for Territorians.

Last year Power and Water supported 10 organisations across the Territory including:

  • Bluearth Foundation – Active Play Movement Program at Ntaria School in Hermannsburg, supporting kids to improve behavioural, social and emotional competence, enhance focus and academic outcomes and build resilience.
  • Top End Pride (NT) Incorporated – Darwin Pride Festival ‘Pride Hub’, supporting queer artists and providing a safe place and opportunity to perform during the festival.
  • Council on the Ageing (NT) Inc – purchase of personal safety devices for senior Territorians to ensure they feel safe and supported while out in the community.
  • Alawa Primary School – Alawa School farm upgrades, including solar tap timers, irrigation upgrades, a shade house, animal water troughs, mulch and upgrades to the community market stall.
  • Katherine Community Indoor Sports Centre – upgrades and maintenance to make the centre more functional, safe and fun for kids and community members to enjoy social and recreational sports and activities.
  • Karama Community Garden Incorporated – upgrades to the garden to be more sustainable, including the installation of a new smart irrigation system which will support the community to have access to fresh fruit and vegetables throughout the year.
  • The Nappy Collective – supporting the organisation to raise awareness about nappy stress and encourage donations through collections boxes and marketing campaigns to help families in crisis.
  • NT Writers Centre – Writers Festival ‘Poems from the Heart’ event in Alice Springs, supporting local writers and storytellers and amplifying our diverse Territory voices.
  • St John Ambulance NT – purchase of 13 new Automated External Defibrillators and training for volunteers, supporting crucial and lifesaving responses at community events across the Territory.
  • Good Dog AAI – supporting facility accessibility modifications to welcome a more diverse range of people who would benefit from Animal Assisted Therapy. Animal assisted therapy assists Territorians to improve their emotional regulation, educational and behavioural learning and overall wellbeing.

Power and Water Deputy Chief Executive Officer John Pease said the Community Grants Program is an important way of connecting and giving back to customers and the community.

‘We are proud to partner with local organisations across the Territory to help make their initiatives a success. It’s rewarding to see the impact these grants make and to see firsthand how passionate our community is to make a difference’ Mr Pease said.

2023 community grant recipient Good Dog AAI is grateful to have received funds from Power and Water to help upgrade their facilities to be more accessible to their clientele.

‘We are incredibly grateful to have been successful through the Power and Water Community Grants Program. Using the grant funds, we were able to install a ramp at Roxy’s Ranch to improve accessibility for clients to attend therapy sessions with Labradors Quinton, Julius and Otto, our therapy dogs.’ Ms Hannah Taiño-Spick said.
