We have replaced the roof of the Salonika elevated water tank at Goyder Road, Parap, to ensure we maintain water quality in our network. Our works programs plan for the future by scheduling regular maintenance and infrastructure replacement before it effects the safety, reliability and quality of our services.
The water tank roof was more than 30 years old and was reaching the end of its usable life.
Scaffolding was erected and roofing works scheduled from Monday 30 May to Monday 31 October 2022:
- 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday
- 7am to 2pm on Saturdays.
During the works water was supplied to our customers from other tanks on the network and we monitored water quality and pressure in the area. Customers did not notice any change to water supply as a result of the works.
What’s involved
While the scaffolding was being erected and covered to contain any loose particles during the works, we also lowered the water level in the tank through normal use and then safely released any remaining water into the stormwater system before roof removal began.
Our contractors detached the old roofing material sheets and lowered them to the ground by crane before constructing the new roof.
The tank was also cleaned, any necessary repairs undertaken and repainted inside and out.
We expected the noise level in the immediate area to increase slightly with works activity.
When the roofing works were complete, the inside of the tank was cleaned and refilled and the water tested to ensure it met all health requirements before returning the tank to service and the scaffolding removed.
Power and Water contracted local company Halikos Roofing Pty Ltd to complete the works.
